What would it look like if a generation of divided, broken, and hurt people came together

and laid their lives down for each other just as Jesus did for us?

What if we valued one another just as Jesus valued us?

What if each others’ dreams became our own dreams?

We think the world would then know who Jesus is.

Together, let’s love Him radically.

Together, let’s dream one another’s dreams.

Together, let’s love the nations.

Awaken DTS aims to awaken people to their identity in the Father and then guide them into their callings. We are unlikely friends who have chosen to be a family centered around the presence of God. At the very core of this family are the first 3 values: to love God, love each other, and love the lost. It is who we long to be and what we long to multiply in all locations and vocations.

Justin Seo

Justin is one of the leaders of the July Awaken DTS. He is Korean-American with a little bit of aloha. Jesus radically saved Justin’s life when he joined YWAM and found a community committed to one another. He has worked with YWAM for the last ten years and is believing for another great wave of missions out of America. Justin’s heart is to see a generation live worthy of Jesus’ sacrifice, to create a space for unheard voices, and to see people of color walk in their identities and know their inheritance.

Daniel + Midian Kalta

Daniel and Midian are from England and Brazil, respectively. Daniel did his DTS in 2012 with Awaken in Kona and Midian did hers in England in 2015. They were married in 2017 and together have helped to oversee DTS’s in both England and Kona. They both have a passion for raising up disciples of Jesus into maturity, training leaders, and building family.

Mike Schein

Mike is your standard good lad who grew up in Cape Town, South Africa with a German pa and a Kiwi ma. He grew up in YWAM and after doing his DTS in 2015 in Kona, Hawaii felt a deep call on his heart to come back and commit to community, discipling others, and being discipled. His heart is for genuine friendships and relationships to be cultivated and maintained for the long-term, with God always in the center.

Megan Dixon

Megan is an American/Brit who has spent most of her life in YWAM. She came to do her DTS in Kona in July of 2015 and has been with Awaken ever since! Her heart’s desire is to see the young people of today live out Jesus’ beautiful example: to walk out in their true identity through discipleship and relationship with him, to discover the gift of intimacy that the Father has made available to us, and to take that into our different spheres as we to learn together about this life he has given us. Loving him, loving one another, and loving the lost.

Paul Kang

Paul was a typical second generation Korean-American who grew up in the church but did not really know who Jesus was. He made a mess of his life and he reluctantly came to Kona in 2012 for his DTS where he had a radical love encounter with the living God. Paul was completely changed from the inside out and left his career with PwC to come and staff with Awaken. His passion and heart’s desire is to see people set free by the power of the gospel and to undergo the hard work of discipleship so that all the world will hear, believe, and worship Jesus as the King of all Kings.

Mike + Megan Schein

We are newly married, and have been with Awaken since 2015! Mike is from South Africa and Meg is from Ohio/England. We are so in love with the Father, and are both super passionate about relationship and intentional discipleship. We long to see the hearts of young people simply encaptured by the love of the father, and are called to walk with them, in full freedom, into what he has called them to. Can’t wait to discover more of Him with each of you!

The Discipleship Training School (DTS) is YWAM’s six month entry level course, embodying YWAM’s mission to know God and make Him known. DTS provides an environment for students to personally encounter Jesus Christ, learn to hear God’s voice, and respond with joy!

At the completion of the classroom phase, students have the opportunity to ‘make God known’ in the outreach phase. The Gospel comes alive as students step out in faith to preach the good news, baptize new believers and heal the sick (Mark 16:15-18). Outreach is an exhilarating time of risk and adventure, as teams serve with local believers: transforming lives and impacting society with the love of Jesus Christ.
