TRAINING PHASE
This portion of the DTS is designed to equip and send a generation into the world who are fueled by the transformational life of Jesus, willing to change the world and disciple nations! As a DTS community we come before the Lord daily to learn from Him, radically apply the word of God to our lives, and take the message of Jesus to the streets.
OUTREACH
Outreach locations are chosen early on in the 3 month lecture phase, so you can begin to engage with the Lord’s heart for your outreach nation, then you travel to that location after the lecture phase for three months. The goal of outreach is to live out an example of what the rest of your life will be, regardless of where the Lord takes you.
DEBRIEF
After completing the outreach portion of our Awaken schools all our teams will return to Kona for at least a week. We will either be on base or be brought up to the Makapala retreat center on the North Side of the Big Island. The outreach phase is meant to be educational and a big part of that is having space to process and understand what you’ve experienced before going home.
We will continue the training process and solidify our values to see life from this new perspective of being on mission for Jesus. Talk about what following Jesus looks like in a career, at university, working in ministry or going long-term with a community plant. Finally, we will return to Kona and have a couple days to graduate.
Remember the DTS was always intended to be a launching pad for the long-term. You could say outreach 2.0 begins once you leave Kona. Where will the Father lead you? What is He saying? What will you do? Life is our mission field, let the adventure begin.
BEYOND DTS
We, the YWAM Kona campus, are revamping our associate degree tracks. A two year program that will provide foundational coursework in character development, missions, leadership, biblical studies, humanities, communication and a focus course of your choosing. This comes with the added benefit of a pay as you go discounted tuition rate. To learn more start a conversation with an admissions counselor by emailing degrees@uofnkona.edu
The first course to take in this degree track is the Awaken Discipleship Bible School. In this 12-week introduction to the Bible, the student will be given an overview of “God’s story” and will discover the purposes of God in it. Visit awakendts.com/discipleship-bible-school/ for more information.
Additional schooling with the UofN is not limited to the Kona campus. The University of the Nations offers courses in more than 160 nations worldwide. The university also offers a variety of degree options. From bachelor’s to doctorate degrees, students can learn in an atmosphere geared specifically toward the promotion of faith. For more information on what courses and degree programs the UofN offers, explore the “Training” section on the YWAM Kona website.
AWAKEN VALUES
Here are some values we’ve identified that help our community embody this message. As you read them understand that we see these as parts of an integrated ecosystem, not a comprehensive checklist of separate ideas. The first few values are known as “the three loves”, everything else is building from their foundation.
- Presence of God
Paramount in our values is our relationship with God, furthermore we can do nothing apart from the Father and His love.

- Love Those Who Don’t Know God

- Faith For Supernatural

Luke 10:8-9 || Acts 2:43 || 1 Corinthians 4:20
- Speak Life
Words create worlds and we want life to flow from our lips, not death.
