About This Ministry

A God-centered school with parents and teachers working together to help children know God and prepare them to fulfill their God-given destinies.

Staff families come together as they are being trained for field work or training others. Involved in Wai’aha, they stay connected with their children, receive training from experienced educators, and serve together to make a rich God-centered education possible for their children in grades 1-8. This equips parents to teach their own children when they go places where there are no schools, and to be a part of multiplying Biblical models of family and education into the nations.

OUR FOCUS

All parents are involved in the classrooms. Some become effective, ʻlead teachersʼ, others teach small groups or serve as assistants. Parents also help with administration and other practical areas like cleaning, as guest speakers, and on field trips, some are taking this school model out to other nations.

Wai’aha children have gone on to excel, equipped with a strong foundation as their learning journey has continued into a variety of public and private high school and tertiary educational settings.

Whatever their role, they are important partners who serve, strengthen, train, and equip parents to take part in the education of their children. Becky Kimmich, Dee Robbins, Liz Norris, Kris Richards

Becky, Dee, Liz and Kris function as a team leadership.  Meeting regularly, mutually submitting to one another with love, living out Christian community in this sphere.

In the 1970s YWAM Kona pioneered a Preschool and International Christian School (ICS) for Elementary & High School students, running seminars and developing curriculum centered on the nature and character of God that impacted many nations. In 1989 the ICS was passed on to another Hawaii school group and U of N staff began exploring a different model of education. Our current school began in 1989 as a parent home school co-operative, (“UofN Co-op School”) where parents shared the teaching, often with a full time teacher helping. At international gatherings in Fiji in 2006, University of the Nations leaders were reminded of the word God spoke back in the 1970s that U of N was to begin with preschool education on through elementary/primary and high school to tertiary level. Out of this came a fresh commitment to the education of children and further development of our parent-involvement school model and Biblical curriculum on the U of N Kona campus. In 2013 the school was renamed “Wai’aha International Family School” to better reflect our heart and vision.
