ABOUT

The Contemplative Activist Workshops are bi-annual gatherings hosted by A Life Together, YWAM Muizenberg, and others seeking to encourage, provoke and inspire Jesus-centered works of justice and peacemaking within the global missions movement. The C. A. Workshops provide a gathering space for missionaries and activists the world over who wish to grow their relational networks, ask the tough questions, and deepen their spiritual and ethical discernment in an effort to build more sustainability along the struggle for justice. Through a process of intentional prayer, worship, and collective learning, participants will be welcomed into a safe space of spiritual direction, evocative teaching, and communal discernment focused on the intersection of the radical discipleship tradition, merciful-missions pioneering, and contemplative spirituality. Our prayer in hosting these gatherings is that none of us would feel isolated or alone as we shape and reshape the framework of our Great Commission work. So come and help us remake the world!

2018 WORKSHOPS - GOSPEL NONVIOLENCE

Jesus called his disciples to love their enemies, to be abundantly merciful, to repent and forgive, and to offer no violent resistance to those who do evil. But he also modeled nonviolence by actively confronting injustice and violence everywhere, as when he defied the Sabbath laws to heal the disabled, confronted unjust power structures at the Temple, challenged a throng of assailants accusing a woman of adultery, and, on the night before he died, commanded Peter to put down his sword! Neither passive nor weak, Jesus’ nonviolence is the power of love in action for the well-being of all.
