VISION

“In the beginning was the Word…”  The entire universe was created by the power of God’s words.  Through our thoughts, speech, songs, articles, visuals, websites, films, and all creative expression, we see that God’s Spirit resides in us. Our Creator is still creating today. Together as communicators we can see our world changed by creating with Him. [The Creative Media & Communication Course – CMC211 was previously known and the School of Communication Foundations and completes the University of the Nations requirement for communication core course for AA and BA degrees]

OUR GOAL

…is to train effective communicators with a strategic communications skill set for use in missions and life. From the power of the written word to visual storytelling and media rich presentations, you will obtain experience in the core skills and understanding needed to create transformational web, social, audio and video content with cutting edge design. Join our private Facebook Group to follow this creative journey.

Skill AND Principles

We set out to create a new type of communication course that bridged the gap between the skills and principles of communication that are needed to be effective in ministry or as a professional in the spheres of society… think: art, communication, education, science & technology, the Church, etc.

So maybe you want to be a filmmaker… a designer… a musician… a pastor… a writer… or an artist of any discipline? Consider building a broad foundation in your understanding of communication and media so that you can make a deep and powerful impact in your specific area of calling.

Were We Born Into Sin?

Were We Born Into Sin?  ⋅  31/07/18

The red words in the gospels are underlined by pure blood that was spilled to show a way out. When I look into my 4 month old daughter’s eyes, I see nothing but purity, innocence… hope. But she was born into the same world as you and I, a world where daughters are trafficked and sons are killed in wartime and peacetime. In the Bible, Genesis paints a picture of…

Fragrance of Faith: A YWAM Documentary Film

Fragrance of Faith: A YWAM Documentary Film  ⋅  21/07/18

"Even in the first interviews in Kona, our staff and students could sense that God was going to do something powerful through this film. Every year during the Creative Media & Communication Course we take on one or two BIG media projects for missions as a class and this past January three of my staff came to me to pitch a documentary film idea about YWAM. The picture got clearer…

The Day Loren Cunningham's Family Almost Died

The Day Loren Cunningham's Family Almost Died  ⋅  11/07/18

Teaching at the Creative Media & Communication Course, YWAM founder Loren Cunningham recounted this life threatening story that none of us had ever heard before about when he was 6 years old out in a town near San Diego... He and his older sister and parents were out preaching in the center of town. All the sidewalks in that part of town were covered by brick porticos because of the…

2018: When media / arts perfection is…

2018: When media / arts perfection is not enough  ⋅  17/11/17

I know a guy in Europe who is one of the most talented photographers I’ve ever met. He spent years learning the inner workings of his camera, his editing softwares… every detail of his discipline. But does he work professionally in photography? Sadly, he gave up photography (even as a hobby) because he couldn’t earn a living. I believe he didn’t lack photography skills… he lacked the OTHER communication skills…

Joel Rogers - School Leader

Despite doctors assuring his parents they would never have children, Joel William Rogers came totally unexpected. Born on the 7th day of the 7th month of 1977… 7 minutes after his less un-expected twin brother Jeff. He likes playing rock ‘n roll on his electric guitar and loves telling real stories – including the made-up ones. Sometimes those stories are tattooed on dead trees, but more often they flash up on screens before hiding in people’s minds. He has American & French nationality but will not ask you to pardon his French. Joel currently lives in Kona, Hawaii with his viking-surfer-designer-wife Benedicte, his scientist-artist-freerunner son Ethan, his hula dancing-painter-comedian daughter Lily and his recently born daughter Summer who is really good at rolling over and making the whole world smile.

Experience the University of the Nations

YWAM Kona’s University of the Nations campus is a place of great vision. Maybe anywhere that hosts thousands of young, sold out followers of Jesus who have left everything to serve would experience this kind of “open heaven” atmosphere that many remark on when they arrive here? These buildings are just tools. But God is using every part of our campus to see students and staff experience massive life changes and take His love to the nations!

Accreditation

THE UNIVERSITY OF THE NATIONS IS NOT ACCREDITED BY AN ACCREDITING AGENCY RECOGNIZED BY THE UNITED STATES SECRETARY OF EDUCATION.  Admission to the University of the Nations (U of N) and any of its sponsored programs is open to qualified individuals regardless of race, color, nationality, ethnic origin, gender, and educationally unrelated handicaps.
