Discovering God’s call for your life starts with what He’s already asked us to do—love God and love others. This starts in community as you serve others. In the process you will discover your gifts and develop a skill set. And then, when you find where your skills meet a need that you’re passionate about, you will have found purpose a calling from God.

First off—you really can hear God’s voice. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them” (John 10:27). God speaks in many different ways—through the Bible, in dramatic encounters and through His “still, small voice”. One of the most helpful ways to grow is by getting mentored in a community that can help you learn when you’re hearing God versus your own thoughts.

God made you with unique passions, skills, and gifts. Don’t throw them out to “be a missionary.” God wants to use your gifts to change the world. He needs missionaries that are gifted in media, music, fitness and administration in addition to preaching and pastoral work. God gave you your passions for a reason. If you allow Jesus to use them you will begin one of the most exciting journeys of your life.

Your past doesn’t disqualify you from serving God. It gives you a launchpad to experience God’s breakthrough. But it’s hard to get freedom by yourself. We all need a community that loves us enough to ask the hard questions, and help us continue to overcome our past. From there, you get to help others overcome.

We go to the nations because Jesus asked us to. Every person on earth is loved by God and deserves to know God’s love. Jesus commissioned His followers to “Go and make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19). We believe reaching the nations is not an optional extra to the Christian life, but what we’re born to do.

There are a lot of hard questions about faith. Many of them have clear Biblical answers while others need new thoughtful discussion to figure out. But before you search for answers, you want to make sure you’re surrounded by people who love and live God’s word. If you plug into a multi-generational community with a history of studying and following the Bible, the answers will come.
