About the Course
This course presents principles for recognizing God's truth and righteousness in the cultures of the world, affirming those cultures, and seeing them transformed by the work of God. Students learn to view history and their own and/or other cultures from a biblical perspective; they also learn to develop strategies for influencing society toward righteousness, making the Word of God the standard for living. Students must be prepared to immerse themselves in the culture of the on-site location, participating in community activity and offering expressions of their own cultures, sharing evidence of God within their own people group.

What happens in this course?
You’ll explore the connection between faith, culture, identity, and God’s redemptive purposes, while learning to see both the beauty and brokenness within your own culture. Through biblical teaching, local cultural immersion, discussion, and hands-on application, you’ll learn to contextualize these principles wherever God calls you—whether in Hawaiʻi or beyond.
Training Phase (3 months)
Learning Beyond the Classroom
You’ll learn from leaders and practitioners who are actively pursuing cultural redemption through cross-cultural ministry, YWAM, business, and community initiatives in Hawaiʻi and around the world. But this school isn’t meant to stay inside a classroom. We take what we’re learning into the community, getting our hands dirty, building relationships with Indigenous Hawaiians, serving alongside those already doing the work, and learning through their experience and ways of knowing. From serving at a cultural festival to farming a loʻi patch, you’ll experience indoor and outdoor learning, practical service, discussion, movement, observation, and hands-on application. This is a fully immersive training, which means the days are full and the learning is active. You’ll be challenged, stretched, and asked to step outside your comfort zone—but you’ll also have the opportunity to experience cultural redemption in practice, not just theory, as you work alongside people who are already living it out.

Understand the significance of “Firsts” — explore the biblical importance of first peoples, first fruits, and firsts within every nation.
Champion unity & diversity — understand their role in fulfilling the Great Commission.
Create space for culture — learn to honor, celebrate, and make room for God-given cultural expression.
Engage global issues biblically — develop a biblical perspective on issues like displacement, racial justice, and cultural conflict.
Put it into practice — gain practical tools to bring transformation to their communities.
Learn to contextualize — practice applying these principles in Hawaiʻi and carry them into whatever context God calls them next.
