How do I become a staff member with YWAM?

To join YWAM you must complete a Discipleship Training School (DTS). After DTS, you can become YWAM staff and serve as a missionary all over the world, or continue on to complete courses or work toward a degree from the University of the Nations.

Where can I go as a YWAM missionary?

YWAM currently operates in more than 1,500 locations in at least 187 countries worldwide. Read more information here.

How can people make donations to a YWAM missionary?

If the individual is a full-time missionary with YWAM and has a missions account with the University of the Nations Kona Foundation, donations can be made online or by check. For further questions, please contact the finance office or the YWAM missionary you desire to support.

What about staff insurance?

All staff must arrive in Kona with their own health insurance that is valid in the United States and covers health costs incurred here. U of N Kona does not provide insurance for anyone on campus – students, staff or mission builders – and cannot be held responsible for any of their medical costs. Proof of insurance will be required on your arrival day (for students) when you go to staff services to get your staff ID card (for staff). This insurance must cover your entire time in Kona. Short-term health insurance can be purchased online before you arrive. To find different options available, research “short-term health insurance” and find an option that meets your health needs. For liability reasons, the University of the Nations cannot recommend a health insurance provider.

Should staff get immunizations?

We encourage all staff and students to come with the appropriate updates on immunizations. These are the following:

  • Polio
  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus

These updates are required every 10 years, if you are unsure of your last immunization, check with your doctor. Please, for your own safety, ensure that you are up to date with these before coming to the lecture phase of your school so that you will be prepared in advance for your field assignment. For overseas field assignments we recommend that all staff and students receive further vaccines, these are the following:

  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Hepatitis B

We encourage you to have these immunizations before joining us as vaccines are expensive and foreign students/staff pay more once they are in the United States. We may also be encouraging students and staff to take medicine to help prevent malaria and to use mosquito nets during the field assignment – this depends on the location of your field assignment. If you would prefer, you can bring malaria medication with you from home or we can purchase this for you here.
