Kona’s Fire Relief Effort: Assisting on the Field Through Communication and Social Media Support— September 13, 2023

Kona, Hawaii: On August 17, 2023, a dedicated group of 60 young volunteers from Youth With A Mission (YWAM) flew over to Maui to help deliver essential supplies while helping support the families affected by the fire in Lahaina.

As of now, the relief materials have been successfully delivered to Maui, offering support to those dealing with the consequences of the fire.

This initiative by the young YWAM members highlights the importance of volunteerism and the difference collective action can make. Their dedication and proactive approach to a challenging situation emphasize the capabilities of volunteers to rise to the occasion when needed. These young volunteers have demonstrated that determination and teamwork can bridge many gaps. Their collective effort ensured that necessary supplies reached the affected community promptly.

5 weeks ago we were contacted by friends in Maui saying they needed help with their organization Family Life Center. Family Life Center is a non-profit organization helping families and individuals get back on their feet. We took a group from our campus to help on the field with communications, social media platforms, and documenting current events.

Within two days, we accumulated 2 million views, 5,000 comments, and traction for this volunteer-based organization. Family Life Center’s TikTok grew to 13.2k followers and 357k likes.

In just a short period of time of creating social media platforms and posts we see how social media brings communities near and far to bond together and extend a helping hand. This inspiring display of solidarity through media reminds us that even in times of adversity, we see the body of Christ coming together to be the helping hands of Jesus.
