Join Staff

Join a community eager to learn and grow in God and with each other. YWAM UofN Kona offers a place for youth and the young-at-heart to be in training or in operations.

Discover staff opportunities by exploring our schools/ministries or by checking our wish list.

Short-term volunteers: If you have not completed a DTS, and are interested in short-term volunteering, check out Kōkua Program or Mission Builder programs

Full-time volunteer staff: Inquire about existing opportunities or pioneer new ones, and after completing your journey with a DTS, join us by filling out our staff application. Our leadership track is recommended for most staff prospects who just completed a DTS.

FF Leadership Track: This is a 3 month development training program for those interested in staffing a Fire & Fragrance DTS. Being accepted for Leadership Track does not guarantee a staff position in the DTS.

Staff Application Process

Staff Application Requirements

We hope to make your application process as a staff as simple as possible. Here are the guidelines:

Apply as Staff
Complete our quick application. We recommend you use your most recent YWAM DTS or U of N School Leader as one of your references. Once you submit your app and all references have returned, we’ll be in touch!

After you’re accepted…

We’ll be in touch with more info. But to be aware in advance, you will need:

  • TB Clearance: If you haven’t recently received this (e.g. from being a student), you will need to receive TB clearance. This is to comply with State of Hawai’i requirements.  Our Campus Health department can facilitate this – [email protected]
  • Health Insurance: All staff and volunteers are required to have comprehensive health insurance. For this purpose, we accept health sharing plans.
  • Visas: If you’re not a U.S. citizen, U.S. national or Lawful Permanent Resident, you may need a visa or Invitation Letter. After you’re accepted, reach out to our Visa Desk – [email protected]
  • Housing: If you wish to apply for on-campus housing, submit an app – Singles | Couples/Family

For further questions you may contact Staff Services – [email protected] / +1 (808) 326-4493.

Staff FAQ

To join YWAM you must complete a Discipleship Training School (DTS). After DTS, you can become YWAM staff and serve as a missionary all over the world, or continue on to complete courses or work toward a degree from the University of the Nations.

All staff must arrive in Kona with their own health insurance that is valid in the United States and covers health costs incurred here. U of N Kona does not provide insurance for anyone on campus – students, staff or mission builders – and cannot be held responsible for any of their medical costs. Proof of insurance will be required on your arrival day (for students) when you go to staff services to get your staff ID card (for staff). This insurance must cover your entire time in Kona. Short-term health insurance can be purchased online before you arrive. To find different options available, research “short-term health insurance” and find an option that meets your health needs. For liability reasons, the University of the Nations cannot recommend a health insurance provider.
